COOKING TIPS
ROASTING
1. Score an X, shallow, into the flat side of the shell
2. Soak for up to 10 minutes to optimise cooking to centre
3. BBQ or roast at 220 C for 30 mins
Can cool them for up to 10 minutes under a tea towel
We recommend peeling as soon as they leave the BBQ or oven
BLANCHING FOR STIR FRY
1. Cut wide side of Chestnuts in half, or quarters
2. Bring a pan of water to boil
3. Blanch the Chestnuts for up to 15 minutes
4. Squeeze shell, Centre will separate
5. Add to semi-cooked stir fry
STORAGE TIPS - IMPORTANT!
Chestnuts are fruits with plenty of moisture, are best eaten fresh
Keep uncooked chestnuts in the fridge, in the crisper
Best eaten within a week or 10 days
They last much longer at minus 2 C
If you can't store that cold, cook them, then freeze
